JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
The Sanctuary Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day Sanctuary Operations.

Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure that the Chimpanzee Health and Veterinary needs are efficiently monitored and
attended to adequately and regularly.
2. Responsible for the Welfare of the Chimpanzees at Ngamba Island.
3. Ensure a high level of customer care to the guests received at the Island Including
Guests, Researchers and volunteers.
4. Maintain the Environmental Management Policy System, Procedure and programs and
ensure their strict implementation.
5. Support proper management of data collection and information management.
6. Ensure proper research procedures and programs are undertaken.
7. Adhere to effective implementation of “Sustainable Living on Lake Victoria” Programs.
8. Oversee all personnel at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
9. Oversee all maintenance and repairs of equipment/buildings.
10. Track record, mitigation and report on any and all incidents/accidents /escapes etc.
11. Ensure compliance and adherence to all policies, procedures and protocols of the
Chimpanzee Trust at Ngamba Island.
12. Advice Management and the Board on the welfare of Chimpanzees at Ngamba Island.
13. Report to the Executive Directors on a regular basis concerning Sanctuary Operations.

Qualification And Experience
• Minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine with at least 2
• years of clinical experience.
• A Master’s degree in a related field, as well as experience working with NGOs and
• rural communities is an added advantage.
