About the Electoral Commission:
The Electoral Commission, established under Article 60 of the Constitution of Uganda, is mandated to organize, conduct, and supervise free, fair, and transparent elections and referenda. The Commission seeks qualified individuals with integrity, initiative, and teamwork skills for temporary employment as Sign Language Interpreters for a 10-month period.


Purpose of the Job:
To enhance communication between individuals with hearing impairments and others by providing Uganda Sign Language (USL) interpretation services across the Commission’s 12 regions and headquarters.


Key Responsibilities:



  1. Provide real-time, accurate interpretation between spoken language and USL.

  2. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand context-specific needs.

  3. Assist in meetings, training sessions, and presentations.

  4. Prepare for assignments by reviewing materials.

  5. Foster an environment conducive to effective interpretation.

  6. Advise staff on strategies for utilizing interpretation services.

  7. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.

  8. Perform other assigned duties.


Minimum Requirements:



  1. Diploma in Uganda Sign Language Interpretation or a relevant diploma plus a USL certificate.

  2. Background in social work, development, or programs (advantageous).

  3. Two years of professional sign language interpretation experience.

  4. Fluency in USL, English, and local languages.

  5. Knowledge of general disability issues (advantageous).
