Role Overview:
The Chief Exploration and Extractions Officer provides strategic and technical leadership for all exploration and extraction functions of UNMC. This senior role ensures that exploration strategies align with the company’s business objectives, market trends, and sustainability standards, while overseeing the safe and efficient extraction of mineral resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the company’s exploration strategy, ensuring alignment with UNMC’s overall goals and sustainability standards.
- Oversee data acquisition, quality control, storage, and analysis for exploration and extraction projects.
- Identify and evaluate technical, regulatory, and economic risks associated with exploration, resource assessment, mining, and sustainability projects.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental considerations.
- Lead geological mapping, data evaluation, and prospect generation to support successful mineral exploration and extraction.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to secure funding and partnerships for exploration projects.
- Provide technical guidance to mining operations to optimize extraction processes.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Qualifications and Experience:
- An Honours Degree in Mining, Geo-sciences, Exploration Geophysics, Metallurgy, or a related field from a recognized university.
- Postgraduate training in mineral resource development or a related discipline is an added advantage.
- At least 15 years of relevant professional or management experience in a natural resource public or private institution, with 10 years at a senior policy or management level.
- Registered member of a recognized professional Geo-sciences body or the Engineers Registration Board (where applicable).
- Proven background in geological mapping, data interpretation, and successful mineral exploration and extraction projects.
Competencies and Skills:
- Strategic leadership and project management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Risk assessment and mitigation expertise.
- Business-focused team working and stakeholder management.
- Proficiency in geological and mining software tools.
