Role Overview:
The Environmental Officer is responsible for promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development within Mityana Municipality. This role involves enforcing environmental regulations, conducting awareness campaigns, and working with communities to address environmental challenges such as waste management, pollution, and deforestation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement environmental management plans and policies for the municipality.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with environmental laws and regulations (e.g., National Environment Act).
- Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for development projects.
- Promote sustainable waste management practices, including recycling and proper disposal.
- Organize community sensitization programs on environmental conservation.
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to address environmental issues like pollution and land degradation.
- Prepare reports on environmental activities and challenges for submission to municipal authorities.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least 3 years of experience in environmental management, preferably in a local government or public sector setting.
- Knowledge of Ugandan environmental laws and policies.
- Skills in environmental monitoring, data analysis, and report writing.
- Ability to engage with communities and stakeholders effectively.

- Teamwork and collaboration.
Type letters, reports, minutes, and other official documents as assigned. File and retrieve documents, ensuring proper organization and confidentiality. Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails and physical mail. Maintain office records and ensure secure storage of documents. Assist in data entry and basic office administration tasks. Provide support during meetings by taking minutes or preparing materials. Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
